Here are Ashlee's answers to our questions.

• Three things you have done as a member of Girl Guides: ranger round up in Doe lake, the remembrance day ceremony in Ottawa, the lippizaner stallions at the jlc
• Three foods you tried because of Girl Guides: banana boats, hot dogs in milk cartons and raw potatoes
• Three places you've been, yes, with Girl Guides: Ottawa, Doe lake, The Toronto zoo
• Three memories you treasure (Girl Guides!): gold camp, doe lake, and Ottawa.
• Three Girl Guide crests/badges you own: religion in life, gold camp badge, cookie selling badge
• Three things about Girl Guide camp: 1 you love, 1 you hate, 1 you dream of! love: eating food without our hands, hate: bathrooms, dream of: winter camp in tents.
• Three friends you've made through Girl Guides: Katie Wilson
• Three activities that were amazing: can you survive that activity at Doe Lake
• Three things you own "just for Girl Guides": uniform, camp blanket, camp hat
• Three Girl Guide things you say/do that no one else will understand: da moose
• Three things you'd tell someone if they thought they might want to join Girl Guides: you'll make friends that will last you a lifetime, you learn how to camp and become part of a group that welcomes you, girl guides also accepts woman of any age to join.

• Three things you have done as a member of Girl Guides: Participated in the national remembrance day assembly, saw the Lippizaner stallions and slept over night at the JLC, went to the Ranger Roundup at Doe Lake
• Three foods you tried because of Girl Guides: Raw potatoes, Banana boats, Bittersweet chocolate(yuck)
• Three places you've been, yes, with Girl Guides: Ottawa, Toronto zoo, Ontario Place
• Three memories you treasure (Girl Guides!): Gold camp, Rally Day at Casa Loma and Wacky Paddles Canoe Camp
• Three Girl Guide crests/badges you own: Religion in Life badge, a Pax Lodge crest, and my gold camp crest (I wouldn't want to lose it!)
• Three things about Girl Guide camp: 1 you love, 1 you hate, 1 you dream of!: I love eating food without using my hands, I hate Sundays because you have to cleanup and leave, I dream of camping like the wizards in Harry Potter
• Three friends you've made through Girl Guides: Ashlee Brown!!
• Three activities that were amazing: Can you survive that (survival first aid).
• Three things you own "just for Girl Guides": Camp hat, Camp blanket, and my uniform
• Three Girl Guide things you say/do that no one else will understand: Da Moose
• Three things you'd tell someone if they thought they might want to join Girl Guides:
  -you'll make new friends
  -you'll learn how to camp and some important life skills
  -you will laugh really hard, because there are so many good times in guiding!

the Grandmother of Guides

Our Girl Guides love to play a game where they play in pairs and need to match body parts. :)  I'll explain further below.

The other night, it was down to 2 pairs of girls!  As they ran to match head to belly, Ashlee & Katie were slower than the other pair, so they were required to answer a Girl Guide trivia question:

Who is known as the Grandmother of Guides?

Katie's answer:  Anne

. . . . that would be Anne, our treasurer, who is Ashlee's grandmother!  :)  so we laughed a bit, and then we reworded the question:
Who is known as the Grandmother of Guiding?

ah!

that is MUCH clearer!!

This is why we love Guides!

now, more about the game:
Girls are in pairs, one at each side of the room.
Announcer calls out two body parts (eg head and belly, or ear and elbow)
The girls run towards their partner and meet in the centre of the room, and they must put the two body parts together.
The last pair to match body parts, is out and must answer a Guiding question.  They then become the announcer to call out the next two body parts.

A Doe, A Deer, A Female Deer ...

Yes, we saw a deer - actually TWO - this morning on our bike hike!

If you look really closely, you can see them.

I don't know why they didn't pose and wait for me to get my camera ready!

Guide Camp!

64th Guides Visit the Toronto Zoo

Yes, we could see the sunrise on the horizon as we left London in the wee morning hours ....

And it was so worth it!

The zoo was great!

The girls were wonderful!

It was an amazing day!

A Postcard from Sangam!

We received a postcard from Sangam!

Sangam is one of the World Centres of WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts).

They said "Thanks" for the friendship bracelets we sent to them!

More Cookie Sales - at One London Place

We took advantage of a PA day and asked if any of the girls could come downtown to sell cookies at One London Place.

Thanks Sifton for giving us this opportunity! We had fun!

Melissa, Taylor, Rachel and Stephanie did a great job in the lobby and in no time at all, we sold out of the cookies we had there!

We still have more cases of cookies, so watch for us - we're coming to sell them!

Girl Guide summer camps

provide a great opportunity to keep the Guiding spirit going when Unit meetings finish!  We encourage Members and non-Members to register to join us at one or more of our ten camps for fun-filled programming operating under the safe supervision of our talented volunteers and employees!  Financial assistance is available for current GGC Members. 

Just south of London is Camp Orenda where we offer affordable summer camping programs for girls for a few weeks during the summer as well.  These camps are planned and implemented by wonderful GGC volunteers who ensure that everything is safe yet really fun! 

If you'd like to travel to other parts of Ontario, there are many more camps to choose from!  Just visit our Event Listing and Registration page for more information on the summer day camps and overnight camping events.

For Camps Orenda (London), or Bonita Glen (Orillia), Bryerswood (Windsor), Carruthers (Kingston), Conestogo (Listowel) and THRAC (Midhurst), be sure to select the "Local Specialty and Summer Camps" button on the event listing.

Camps Adelaide (Haliburton), Doe Lake (Huntsville), Woolsey (Ottawa) and Wyoka (Hanover) run programs throughout the summer. There are fun-filled, affordable traditional camp programs for girls only.  These camps also host the very popular weekend and mid-week intergenerational programs for families (e.g. Mom & Me and Dad & Me) where the adult and child are both participants.  If you are unable to drive to and from camp there are transportation options available. A new face this year! 

We love having Jasmine in our unit this year and we asked her the same questions that we've asked the other leaders and we love her answers!  Thanks for joining the 64th Guides this year!

• Three things you have done as a member of Girl Guides: winter camping in tents; world centre district camp; carnival district camp
• Three foods you tried because of Girl Guides: banana boats; guacamole; grilled cheese made over a tin can
• Three places you've been, yes, with Girl Guides: Ontario Place; Disney on Ice (^.^); Camp Woolsey
• Three memories you treasure (Girl Guides!): creating a massive (t-shirt) rainbow with all of the different levels of Guiding in a football field; cookie selling and learning money and manners as a girl; creating so many hat crafts I needed a second hat
• Three Girl Guide crests/badges you own: Canada Cord; canoe certification; Osteoporosis Bone Challenge
• Three things about Girl Guide camp: 1 you love, 1 you hate, 1 you dream of!: campfire; difficulty staying clean; camping in another country
• Three friends you've made through Girl Guides: too many good friends to name! both as a girl and a Guider
• Three ways Girl Guides has helped you: making friends (hard for me); outdoor skills; volunteer opportunities
• Three crafts that you'll never do again: "scent rocks" (NEVER dry); bead crafts with Sparks; hat crafts that involve leaders making them and girls pinning them on their hats
• Three activities that were amazing: rock-climbing; canoe camp; sleeping out under the stars

...not quite all the girls were present, a few missing, so we're hoping to take a Unit Photo before the end of the Guiding year!

They look great!!

Remember, this project is going on ALL YEAR long!

Come and celebrate the evening of World Thinking Day with us as we give thanks and appreciation for the international friendship we share within this organization.
The evening will be spent enjoying the celebration and singing for Guiding!

Please be sure to bring a sit-upon and your pennies, as we will be collecting for the World Friendship Fund.

This is NOT a UNIT EVENT - if you attend, please remain with your daughters.

It was the 100th Year Anniversary of Girl Guides in Canada!

Remember our Centennial Geo-Coin?

It is STILL TRAVELLING 'round the USA!!!

And the latest geocacher to "grab" it, has said "We're going to place this in a special cache to celebrate Girl Scouts of America's 100th Anniversary in March.  I'm holding on to it until 3/17/12 but will take it around so it gains some more miles. Maybe someone will pick it up to take to another country from there."
